Chris Pellant (SH 59-63).

Chris Pellant died on 15th November 2023. After leaving St Bees School, where his father was for a time the senior English master (Geoff Pellant), he went on to graduate from Keele University in geology and geography and subsequently lectured in geology until 1997. He was the author of many books on his subject, including the best-seller: ‘Eyewitness Handbook, Rocks and Minerals’, which sold over half a million copies.

Chris married his wife Helen, a botanist, in 1969 and they had two sons and a daughter. He was a keen cricketer and golfer throughout his life, which in his earlier days had included being the lead singer in a rock band. He maintained contact with many OSBs.

Hugh Redway (G 62-67) kindly advised us of Chris’s death. Hugh used to play cricket with Chris in the local Lealholm cricket team in the Eskdale League.
